The Ultimate Risk of Getting Married at First Sight

We take risks every single day. There are minor risks like driving a car or ordering something new in a restaurant. There are major risks like switching jobs or moving to a new city. Then there are ultimate risks, like jumping off a cliff...or marrying a stranger.

Bringing your walls down, building a foundation of trust and giving your heart to someone can be a scary thing with someone you know well. Imagine having to do that with a stranger in just eight short weeks. Yet, that is exactly what needs to happen if the six people on Season 5 of Married at First Sight want to have a chance at a successful marriage.

We've all heard the saying, "With no risk comes no reward", but when it comes to the decisions we make that are life-altering, taking a leap of faith should come with a great deal of thought and eyes that are wide-open.

What are the pros and cons? (Yes, I'm a list maker.) Does your decision align with your moral compass? Are you willing to give it your all to succeed? Are you prepared to accept the consequences if you fail?

When you marry a stranger, there are no guarantees. Every day is a risk. Am I attracted to my spouse...are they attracted to me? What do I say...what don't I say? Is intimacy too soon...is it not soon enough? Am I giving enough...am I taking enough? Do they really see me...do they really hear me? Where do we live...who can we trust? Are we even compatible? You get the picture.

Additionally, there are bound to be some extreme highs and lows in this unconventional situation. So the question begs, how will these couples deal with struggle? Will they shut down from it or embrace the discomfort and use it as an opportunity for growth?

Finally, risk takes vulnerability. You have to open yourself up completely and speak your truth. It's the only way of knowing if you will be truly accepted or rejected.

These brave individuals have taken the ultimate risk of marrying a stranger. Now the real work begins to achieve the ultimate reward...happily ever after.
