Commitment to the six week process of "Married at First Sight" could be the single most determining factor for a successful marriage. How do you build commitment with the uncertainty of the situation? It takes consistency, reciprocation and a willingness to work together.
"Commitment is healthiest when it is not without doubt, but in spite of doubt." ~ Rollo May
When you love someone, you willingly give them your devotion. Marrying a stranger takes vulnerability and courage to do the same, in the absence of love. Having a camera record your every look, speak and action adds another layer of stress. How each person handles that stress defines the most critical moments in the relationship.

Commitment to someone must be consistent and unwavering. There needs to be a shared dedication for what is best for the relationship long-term. It's important to ask yourself during a disagreement if the goal is to win the battle or to preserve the dignity of the marriage. Remember, personal attacks undermine the very core of commitment, by breaking trust.

When you have a relationship with mutual respect, people feel safe when sharing their inner-most thoughts and feelings. This builds a level of trust that strengthens the bond you are trying to build.
Sustaining commitment takes working together as a team. It means you are devoted to building a future, sharing your goals and creating memories.

Why do I believe in the concept of "Married at First Sight"? Because in relationships, I believe instead of 'finding' the one, with commitment over time you can 'become' the one. But commitment must be reciprocated.
The challenge then, is for both to stay equally committed when putting forth the needed effort to become best friends...so it's possible to grow in love together.
For these couples, building commitment is the first step. Sustaining commitment happens for the rest of their lives, long beyond the six week social experiment.
