David Good Talks Family, Fitness and The Bachelorette

As I prepared for my interview with David Good, I wasn't sure what to expect. Although he was edited to be a controversial character on Season 5 of The Bachelorette, redemption came as he and Natalie Getz teamed up to win the first season of Bachelor Pad.

It wasn't long into the interview that I was once again reminded, all is not as it seems on reality TV. I consider myself a tough sell, but within a few minutes, I knew I was going to end up loving this guy. He speaks his truth with integrity.

Dave Talks Family and Fitness

Family is important to Dave, so when in the span of one year, he lost his grandfather and his father was diagnosed with cancer, he felt compelled to educate his family. "Although they were smart men, they didn't know a lot about health and nutrition", says Good.

Having played football and basketball through college, Dave had always been interested in exercise and working out. Through research, he found out that nutrition and fitness play a key role in overall good health. What started out as helping his family, grew to helping other people in his small hometown. David shares, "I don't want other people to have to go through what I did with my father and grandfather."

In the process, Dave found out that 79% of Americans are overweight, which can lead to numerous health issues. As a way to reach as many people as possible, he decided to combine his passion for helping others with his passion for exercise and create an online fitness site called Good Health & Fitness

Dave enthusiastically explains, "As soon as you sign up on the website and become a member, you can click on more than 10 different categories, from rubber bands to Bosu balls to spin cycling to power lifting. All you need is a 4 x 4 area to do these workouts. As long as you have a computer, you can click play to follow along."

There are beginner, intermediate and advanced videos for every single category. "There is something there for my grandmother, all the way to something for my best friends, who are really good athletes," says Good.

The most exciting thing, is there will always be something new to do. The days of buying a DVD and doing the same workout day after day are over. To be provided with the choice to work on specific areas at your own pace and comfort level each day, makes this the most unique and customized program available online.

David shares that the most rewarding aspect of this experience is getting feedback from clients. "I've had people cry when they tell me they went to the store to get new clothes. It really affects them when they've been overweight for many years and then in 6 or 8 months they've cut off 20 or 30 lbs."

It's rewarding for Good to hear that his hard work with Good Health & Fitness is paying off. People are getting in shape and it's changing lives.

His goal is to have his site grow to be nationally recognized. I can see this dream becoming a reality.

Five Things You Didn't Know About Dave

Have you ever been in love?
Yes, I was with one girl for 9 years and then with another for 4 years. So before the show, I was in love twice with two awesome women. I'm still friends with them.

Are you currently in a relationship?
I am in a relationship as of Valentines Day, actually.

What is the strangest experience you’ve had with a fan?
People take the show so literally and think because of the way somebody is portrayed on the show, that's how they really are. My roomates and I were grocery shopping in my hometown in Ohio and an old lady threw a loaf of bread at me and called me a jerk. We got a good laugh at that.

Who is your favorite musician?
George Straight

You're a country music fan?

Oh yeah. I grew up truck driving for a living.

Thoughts on Emily Maynard and The Bachelorette

Because she is a mother, do you think Emily should have done the show?

I didn’t think it would be a very good idea in the beginning because she has a 7 year old kid. But then I met Emily and she is a very down-to-earth chick.  She’s a good mother and she talked about her daughter all the time and was worried about that. I ended up talking to her on the phone and telling her to do it.

Do you think Emily fell in love?

I personally don’t see anybody on there that she’s going to end up settling down with. It's going to be hard to find a guy that wants to take that on, especially with the type of personalities they pick out for these types of shows. It's a big deal at the end of the day to become a father figure. I don't know if any of these guys are ready for that.

Tell me your thoughts on some of the guys this season.

I don't like that Kalon dude. He's a spoiled little brat. Chris seems like a very mature  25 year old, but at 25, you're still wet behind the ears. Ryan has some mancode qualities. He was a confident and competitive guy, but it was almost to the point where he was pretty arrogant about it. I think he's trying to be funny, but it's coming off as being cocky. At this point, I  like Sean and Arie for Emily.

What advice would you give to the guys on the show?

Don’t get drunk. They feed you alcohol the whole time and you do things that you normally wouldn't do and say things that you normally wouldn’t say when you get drunk. And that's what they want, that's what causes issues. Juan was like Kalon. Everybody in the house could not stand the guy. The one night I had too much to drink called him out on his annoying behavior, it turned into this big huge four episode ordeal.
Another thing is be yourself with the girl. Don’t worry about the guys in the house. Try to be friendly with everyone and keep a really good head on your shoulders. The only way you can do that is to stay sober. If you really like the girl, focus on her and what you are trying to accomplish. If you're not into her, enjoy the ride. At the end of the day, when you're there and you're driving a Lamborghini around and flying to Vegas, you don't want to go home. It's fun and guys start playing the game, not just for the Bachelorette, but because, guess what? We're going to the Bahamas next week. So have fun and be respectful and you'll have a good time on the show.

What would your advice be for the Bachelor or Bachelorette?

It’s a pretty stressful position to be in. You’re entertaining a lot of people every day and getting pulled in a lot of directions. I would say to go with your gut instinct. If you feel like someone's being fake, they probably are.
