Married at First Sight: Second Chances ~ Ups and Downs

This week's episode of Married at First Sight: Second Chances was pretty intense. As Vanessa gets more clear and concise with her questions, David gets more transparent and revealing with his heart. Let's look at the ups and downs of it all.

On the Downside...

There is no question that Jordan is a woman
of honesty and integrity. So when David broke
up with her, many of us were left feeling shell-shocked.

Occupational hazard of dating multiple men simultaneously...
calling someone the wrong name. Totally understandable, but ouch.

When you're so preoccupied with your thoughts, you can't even
respond to the farm cats attacking your cheese and cracker tray.

First getting the ever dreaded 2:1 date and then getting
laughed at when you say, "Worldly" instead of "African" Dance.

When one of your non-negotiables is to be with
someone who is fun, spontaneous and up for anything,
and the person you're falling for hates every part of this date.

Having the woman who is almost your girlfriend
choose and walk away with another guy. Oh, the pain.

David faithfully gags down some sushi...only to find out Isabella
wants to teach abroad and her timeline for having kids doesn't align
with his. I may or may not have freaked out a little and yelled, "Nooo"!

Trust is a deal-breaker and Andre tells her he's
cheated in the past. Will he get a second chance?

David literally poured his racing heart out to Melika and got
zero back, but chastisement for everything he's done wrong.
My mama bear instinct is going ballistic right now.

Up, Up & Away...

When Myles says he's here to support our girl on her
journey and he wants to earn her trust and affection.

The cuteness factor is lit with these two.
They aren't the only ones who are cheesing big time.

A kiss so hot, there was smoke coming from my TV screen.

David and Melika have a rare fun moment together.
We've been waiting...and see this side of her.

Andre steps up his game, sharing a romantic farm moment
with Vanessa. I'm pretty sure I hear a rooster crowing.

Tara shows she's down for anything, whether it's apple
picking, pig racing or milking a cow. This girl checks all the boxes.

Ike gets the date...and brings his moral compass,
beautiful flowers and an infectious smile. Definitely worth the wait.

Zach pushes through the awkwardness with Vanessa
and they make a connection. But is it too late?

Married at First Sight: Second Chances ~ Highs and Lows

This week's episode of Married at First Sight: Second Chances had us on a constant rush of highs and lows. I don't know about you, but I'm feeling rather drained. Let's get to it...

Low Blows

Shannon...who usually has all the right moves, announces to
Vanessa he's going to Thailand for a the middle of dating her.

David, hoping for a drama-free date, cringes when
Malika announces Callie has been talking badly about the other
girls. I'm still not a fan of tattling. This is getting old, really fast.

Nathan admits to wanting a level of submissiveness
and a woman who knows how to be a woman. Wait....what???

David saw something in Maya that we didn't see. I'm pretty sure his
heart is a little broken in this moment. Kudos to him for being able
to set it aside for the sake of his date with Misha, Isabella and Malika.

Wait...dude! You're gonna show up late to a date
without calling and call HER rude for wanting a man
that makes her feel respected? Vanessa's response about the
boxes and stereotypes women have to face every day was spot on.

Callie says she doesn't want her relationship with
the other (insert record scratch) girls to get damaged.
No mention of harming her relationship with David.

Zach finally comes clean to Vanessa that his desired profession is
acting. While I understand his apprehension, it shows a level of immaturity.

High Fives

Pooya tells Vanessa the reason he didn't call or show
up for their date was because he fell asleep. Whoa! With
that level of disrespect, Vanessa respectfully says bub-bye!

David lets Mandy Grace down easy, telling her that although he
originally connected with her, they haven't moved forward. I love
the respect he shows the women, even when he's breaking up with them.

Calvin Roberson is the man. His advice to Vanessa...
trust yourself and your instincts. Get what you want and don't settle.

Advice for David...take the same principles in your
job and apply them to your relationship. Take the lead,
be honest with how you feel and get in the driver seat.

Myles impresses Vanessa by making her a ceramic heart.
I'm impressed with how he looks at her. Can we just
say, this guy knows how to make a girl feel special?

Britney gives David (and us) a much needed break from all the
girl drama. Their date is just what it should and romantic.

Myles has all the right moves. Their connection is natural
and easy like Sunday morning. I'm cautiously optimistic.

I'm giving Jordan kudos. Although she felt she was being honest
with David regarding Malika, he was offended. It took integrity to
apologize for her actions, clearly showing she cares for his well-being.

When Chris gets middle school level
tongue-tied and flustered around Vanessa, she
reaches for his hand to calm him down. Cutest thing ever.

Married at First Sight ~ Words are Empty Vessels Without Empathy

This week on Married at First Sight, the honeymoon's are over and it's time for real life to begin.

The episode started with an intense discussion between Nate and Sheila. When Sheila reached her limit and was ready to shut down, Nate calmly approached her to apologize and ask what he could do to make it right. In an emotional scene that rocked viewers to the core, Sheila pleaded with him to not only hear the words she was saying, but to feel them. This hit me so profoundly, I knew I had to take a deeper look at it. What is it that gives us the ability to feel someone's pain and joy?

Words are empty vessels until they are felt. That's why it's so important to carefully measure their intent before they are spoken. So how can we ensure our words have the desired impact? One way is listening and speaking with empathy.

Empathy is:
seeing with the eyes of another
listening with the ears of another &
feeling with the heart of another.

When you have empathy, you can put yourself in another person's shoes and see things from their perspective. You not only hear the words, but you feel the emotion in them.

Anthony and Ashley have shown a willingness to look at things from their spouse's point of view. One example is when they made the decision to move to a place with parking for Ashley. Although Anthony didn't initially understand her need, he listened to Ashley's reasons with an open mind. Realizing her safety was at risk, Anthony was able to reevaluate and alter his thinking.
Non-verbals are also a part of empathy. Cody and Danielle are clearly awkward and uncomfortable in their current situation. Despite that fact, you can clearly see care and concern in their eyes.

I love the talk they had on the swing. Cody opened up about what he was feeling, Danielle validated his thoughts and then shared how she felt. Even though they are having a rough patch, they still seem to be committed to making their marriage work.

All three couples are doing a great job of communicating and listening with empathy. I don't know what it feels like to get married at first sight, but each week as I watch, I will imagine what it feels like to walk in their shoes.

Married at First Sight: Second Chances ~ Hits and Misses

In this week's episode of Married at First Sight: Second Chances, we've got some hits and some misses. Here we go...

The Hits Just Keep on Coming

Vanessa does some reflection with Calvin Roberson,
admitting she needs to be more open, trusting and
clear in her expectations of what she's looking for in a man.
You go girl!

David and Jordan agree if they would have been
originally matched, they would still be married. I'm with them.

Vanessa learns that Dre got the book, Five Love Languages
and read it after their last conversation. Impressive indeed.

Isabelle...the calm in the storm. David shines like a
lighthouse when he's with her. They ask each other some great
questions to develop an emotional connection. Reaching beyond the chemistry.

Shannon sets his jokes aside long enough to
move in for the first kiss. Definitely unexpected.

Many years of flirting as friends and Tara & David
finally gets their first kiss. Patience is a virtue.

Missing the Mark

David tells Dr. Pepper he is looking for someone who is fun.
He also tells her that Maya is his first choice. Hmmm....

I'm waiting to see fun in this relationship...but I'm not holding my
breath. My hope is that David is starting to see the forest through the trees.

After a great date...Dre calls it a night early and suggests
they go their separate ways. Wait...what??? Is this guy
playing hard to get or is he really that exhausted from a little salsa?

Malika plays the damsel in distress to get a date with David. In a
private interview, she tells the camera she has no competition. The final
miss for me is when she turns her head to give David the ever dreaded cheek.

After going on a two week roller coaster of ups and downs with Nathan,
it feels like he's purposely pushing buttons to get a negative reaction.
I don't see Vanessa doing well with game playing. I'm with her.
